Actress Shama Sikander who is a fashionista and a true trendsetter thinks that to stay fit you need to keep your mind fit and stay positive. Recently Shama's web series Ab Dil Ki Sunn has won many accolades for her role. In an exclusive interview, Shama reveals her future plans and her fitness mantra.
It’s not an unknown fact that you are seen as a fashionista in the industry, how do you feel about that?
Thank you I feel great that people appreciate me and my style. I just feel a lot of gratitude and want to thank you all for really appreciating my efforts so I do put in a lot of thought as I like to dress up and wear good clothes. You obviously feel nice when someone compliments you for it or appreciates it!
Your web series “Ab Dil Ki Sunn” has received a lot of appreciation, what would you like to say?
I just want to say a big gigantic thank you for understanding and appreciating what I wanted to say and what I really wanted to share with you all. This is the most vulnerable part of my life. It is extremely connected to me and close to my soul. Through this platform, I wanted to help people and share what I had learned in my own life. All of this has actually helped me and I thought it is a great idea to make films about it and share it with people. I have observed that we all go through the same situations at different stages of life, it’s just that we have different names, faces, and countries. But we are the same human beings with similar feelings and human sensitivity. Sometimes I just don’t know what to say because I didn’t know that people are going to like the series so much. The kind of comments that we read under the films on YouTube are overwhelming, with a lot of gratitude. I feel I am the luckiest human on the earth who actually got a chance to help people, however many I could. I am just grateful to the universe for choosing me to spread awareness about something like this that can make a difference in people’s lives.
What fitness tips can you give to your fans which one cannot Google?
I always tell people that if you keep your mind fit, if you are happy and if you are really content in your mind then other things will automatically fall into place. For me, mental fitness matters more than the physical one. If you are mentally fit then you would want to be physically fit. You would want to healthy and happy and full of energy because that’s what it does to you. It brings out the best in you. Concentrate on happy thoughts and do things that make you happy. It’s like a long chain where one thing leads to the other. So, if you learn somehow to keep yourself happy and do things that you want to do you will see how everything changes in your life with that thought. When everything changes, your physical fitness level will also change because then you would want to look better. Another thing that I follow is that I am very aware of myself. If you are aware of yourself then you will know what suits your body and you will automatically become better.
You are known to be an avid traveler, which place would you recommend everyone to visit at least once?
Yes, I absolutely love traveling! I think people should definitely go to Switzerland once. It’s literally heaven on earth. That place is extremely beautiful and clean. The beauty is so mesmerizing that you forget your own existence when you’re standing there. All you feel is the nature around you. I have never seen anything like that.
Also, another place that people must go to is Greece, it’s also extremely beautiful. It has an open culture and that makes it so liberating to see Greece, the people over there and their lifestyle. It actually opens you up as human beings.
New Zealand is also another place. I have never been there but it is on my wishlist! I love nature. I like to go to places where I can connect. I feel Mumbai is a concrete jungle and we are missing greenery which affects us big time. I personally go bonkers if I stay here for more than 2 months. That’s why I like to go to places with nature so that I can lose myself in it. It’s just another world. Travelling Is a very spiritual process for me.
Social Media, especially for celebrities, is a boon and bane, what’s your take on it?
Everything in life is positive and negative, so why would social media be any different? I personally take all the good and don’t bother about the negative. But I am a human and if I am reading some sensitive and vulnerable comments, I react to it. But I don’t really see why it should not exist. If we can’t be always positive and kind then nothing can’t be that way. So, accept it, acceptance is better than neglecting it or denying it as it will only cause more problem. So yeah, just leave the negative and focus on the positive, on yourself and keep doing what you want to!
Everybody is eager to see you on the big screen, when will we see next?
How sweet is that! I am also eager to see myself on the big screen honestly. Sometimes things take time. But I do know one thing that I will become a big star and you will see me a lot on the big screen. As I said, things do take time to work out but they will happen when the right time comes. All I have to do is work hard and be patient. At the moment, I am focusing on some really good scripts that will enhance my performance level and that will give me the challenge to excel in my art, knowledge, and experience. I want to do things that are out of my comfort zone. So that I can excel as a human being as well as an actor. Trust me there is something great coming up but I want to hold on to it before sharing anything much about it.
