Rating: **1/2

Emraan Hashmi returns to the horror genre after a long time and this time he is also joined by the veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. So, let's just jump straight to the point.

The Body is the remake of a Spanish thriller film of the same name. It follows the story of Maya (Sobhita Dhulipala), a beautiful rich businesswoman who has everything in her life. She falls in love with a professor Ajay (Emraan Hashmi) who lives on a meager income.

The duo fall in love and soon tie the knot. But soon after, Ajay begins an affair with another girl Ruhi (Vedhika Kumar) and together they plan to kill Maya and end up succeeding in their motive but the story takes a twisted turn when Maya's body goes missing from the morgue. Slowly, things start to unfold as the investigating DSP (Rishi Kapoor) smells something fishy and tries to get to the bottom of the mystery of the missing body. What follows forms the crux of the film.

The Body screenplay has nothing new to offer in terms of story. The film starts on a good note but soon loses its grip. It has nice background music for a thriller but lacks the main thing which is a tight and gripping narrative. The director Jeetu Joseph aimed to keep you hooked with a story revolving around love and betrayal but ends up delivering an average predictable thriller.

Emraan Hashmi getting back to the horror genre looks good after a long time. He is charming as a romantic lover with shrewd morals and a cheating husband delivering a perfectly balanced performance.

Rishi Kapoor looks great and convincing as a cop with a big nose attempting to get to the bottom of a fishy missing body case and he fits his part perfectly. It is good to see him back on screen after so long and trying something new.

Sobhita Dhulipala as a rich and cold-hearted businesswoman Maya gets to the skin of the character and she looks mostly convincing as the glamorous and gorgeous Maya. Debutante Vedhika Kumar as Ajay's girlfriend Ruhi has a charming screen presence but feels out of place at times.

The music of the film like most Emraan Hashmi films is melodiously soothing and the catchy item numbers are also good. But if you liked the original 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa' then you might be disappointed with the recreated version.

Overall, The Body has some great performances coming from Emraan Hashmi, Rishi Kapoor and Sobhita Dhulipala. The film has many thrilling and gripping moments but the main drawback is its weak screenplay which might not seem entertaining to the regular horror/thriller genre movie lover. Still, if you want to try something new this weekend you can give it a try.
