For his next project, Damien Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land, First Man) will be working "Babylon" for Paramount Pictures. Slated for a 2021 Christmas release date, "Babylon" will see Chazelle directing his own script about the 1920s Hollywood era of silent films and the eventual transition to talkies. Olivia Hamilton, Matt Plouffe, Marc Platt, and Tobey Maguire will produce.
The cast is not finalized, but Chazelle is eyeing Brad Pitt and Emma Stone for the lead roles. If negotiations go well, Brad Pitt will play a fictional actor based on John Gilbert, who finds it difficult to transition into this new version of cinema. Emma Stone will play legendary actress Clara Bow. "Babylon" will be Chazelle's first collaboration with Brad Pitt and second with Emma Stone whom he previously worked on "La La Land".
